Spring 2025 Season FAQS

Thank you for registering your player for the 2025 South Baltimore Little League spring season. We are very excited to welcome you to the South Baltimore LL Community!

We are pleased to announce that we have a grand total of 594 players registered across baseball and softball—a 17% increase over last year’s record registration! Given this substantial growth, the volunteers on the SBLL Board are currently reviewing registration numbers, working on division assignments, and finalizing other logistical issues for the season. Once we have completed that process, we expect to send additional information that will answer most of your questions.

Here are some we’ve been asked thus far:

Q: How do we accommodate all this growth with our limited space?

Games and practices will be conducted in 4 locations this year:
Patterson Park Fields #6 & #7 (along Eastern Avenue)
Riverside Park
Swann Park (90 foot diamond)
SBLL Fields will be in use 7 days a week.

Q: What division is my child in?

You will receive an email within the next two weeks outlining your child's expected division assignment. These assignments are based on several factors, including age, skill, and player safety. Experienced SBLL Board members, league VPs, and coaches—who are familiar with most players' abilities—make these initial assignments. First-year players are placed in the age-appropriate division. We believe this process creates the best possible experience for players, promoting both personal growth and fun. During March practices, we will communicate with parents and players if any division assignment adjustments are necessary. After receiving the individual division email, please don't hesitate to contact us with any questions or concerns.

Q: When will practices start?

Practice start dates vary by division:
Intermediate, Majors, Minors Player Pitch, Modified, and Machine Divisions: Skills and Drills practices begin the week of March 3rd.

Coach Pitch and Tee Ball Divisions: Practices begin in April.

A full schedule for your child's division will be sent to you soon. For those unfamiliar with Skills and Drills practices, our league has found them very successful. These division-wide practices ensure a fun and effective experience for all players, regardless of their eventual team assignments.

Q: What days of the week will events take place?

These are the anticipated schedules for:

Softball and Baseball Majors Divisions: Skills and Drills on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays.

Baseball Juniors Division: Practices and games will be Mondays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays. Further communication will come from the Juniors VP Baseball

Intermediate Division: Skills and Drills on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays.

Baseball Minors Division: Skills and Drills on either Mondays or Wednesdays, and Saturdays.

Softball Machine Division: Skills and Drills on Mondays and Saturdays.

Softball Modified Division: Skills and Drills on Wednesdays and Saturdays.

Baseball Machine Pitch: Skills and Drills on either Tuesdays or Thursdays and Saturdays.

Baseball Modified Division: Practices on Fridays and Sundays.

Coach Pitch and Tee Ball Divisions: Play one game a week on Saturdays with practices beforehand (no league-wide practices).

Games will eventually replace some Skills and Drills days.

Q: Who is our coach and when will games start?

Official game start dates will vary by division, with most divisions beginning the week of April 1st. All teams will play the weekend of April 5th. No official games will be played during Baltimore City Schools' spring break. During March, coaches will be selected and teams will be drafted. Please watch for further communication regarding these developments. Communications from the league and from coaches will come through an app called GameChanger. Please download it now.

Q: What information do coaches need?

If you're interested in managing or assistant coaching in baseball or softball this year, we strongly encourage you to attend our annual coaches meeting (date and time to be announced soon). This meeting will cover our league's vision, expectations, and safety rules, and will also provide valuable coaching tips from our experienced coaching coordinators. Little League regulations require background checks for all managers, coaches, board members, and any other volunteer with repetitive access to players. These individuals must also complete and submit a Little League Volunteer Application and complete the Little League Abuse Awareness Training Course annually.

Q: When is the parade?

Mark your calendars for a tradition not to be missed:  The SBLL Opening Day Parade and festival will occur on Saturday April 5th. The Little League parade is fun for the whole family  and we are looking forward to your attendance and enthusiasm! If you are interested in helping the planning committee or volunteering the day of please email us at [email protected]

Thank you and look out for another email with more specific information soon!
