Happy Summer SBLL Families!

Thank you for a wonderful spring season!

The enthusiasm and growth shown by our players has been wonderful to see. Similarly, we could not be successful without the most dedicated and hard working volunteers in all of Little League. The SBLL Board is taking lessons from our experience this season and is looking forward to continued growth for the league in the years that follow.

The SBLL fall program for ages 6-14 will be geared towards development of the core fundamentals of the game through an ever-moving camp-style practice design. This offering will include small groups, short stations, and captivating drills that are specifically designed to develop the most important aspects of playing the game of baseball and softball. While we won't be offering a schedule with official games, each fall division will include sand-lot style games, allowing a more fun "free-play" feel to the experience.

SBLL fall baseball will consist of a 8-week, three possible opportunities per week. All events are drop-in / voluntary. (we will ask for you to register on the GameChanger app so that we can plan accordingly). SBLL fall baseball is league-based (not team based), allowing athletes some freedom in their fall scheduling, as families won't have to feel as if they are letting down the team if they aren't able to attend a particular session. 

·         Skills and Drills night: (once a week) Players rotate around a series of drills designed to improve the individual components that make up a complete baseball player. S&D has become the DNA of our league; we have seen significant improvement across all ages as a result of this fun, fast-paced practice.

 

·         Pitchers / Catchers / First Base: For older players who choose to participate, we will offer a separate weeknight practice to focus entirely on pitching, catching and first base. This will provide players an individualized, focused workout with to develop these essential skills. Established players will enjoy the fine tuning, and rising players will be introduced to what is expected at the player-pitch divisions.

·       'Sandlot-Style' pickup games: (Sunday mornings) Players lead an unstructured pick up game for baseball and softball players. Kids make the teams and make the lineups. (more information here) New teams will be selected each Sunday and no standings will be kept. Coaches will be there to help make the teams fair, umpire the games, and ensure safety. However, the idea of Sunday sandlot games will be to let the kids be kids having fun playing America’s pastime.

Finally, SBLL is planning on partnering with Arbutus Little League ,and possibly other teams in our district, to offer occasional competitive, traditional games for softball, intermediate, and junior-level baseball. (details are still being worked out) Any player little league age 12 through 14 can express an interest in this league.  We are still in the process of determining the location for these games. They may be played in Arbutus or another field close by.

We encourage you to sign up early, because we may ultimately place a cap on the allowed number of participants by age based on field space and coaching availability. If you wait until the last minute, we cannot guarantee your child the space.
